Travel Historian Privacy Policy

Effective August 21, 2026

Our privacy promise

Travel Historian does not sell precise location data, personal travel history, or personal information. The TestFlight beta contains no third-party advertising or tracking SDK.

Use this form for privacy questions or requests concerning Explorer Progress. Required fields are marked with an asterisk.

Security confirmation *

The reply address, request details, optional Privacy ID, and security verification are processed only to review and respond to this request.

If the form is unavailable, email privacy@travelhistorian.com.

Location

With your permission, Travel Historian sends your current coordinates to the Travel Historian service to find nearby historical places, plan a tour, and return grounded stories. A raw coordinate request may remain in the bounded story queue only while that request is pending; it is cleared when the request completes, fails, or is cancelled. We do not maintain a personal location history.

Generated historical stories and public site coordinates may be cached and reused without being linked to your identity.

Explorer Progress

The app creates a random Privacy ID and a default display name, which you may change. The service stores that ID, display name, aggregate points, selected badge, and opaque achievement tokens. These records do not contain exact coordinates or place names.

Joining the leaderboard is optional and off by default. Only the display name and aggregate achievement information are published when you opt in.

Information kept on your iPhone

Downloaded offline packs, preferences, beta access credentials, and a copy of Explorer Progress are stored on your iPhone. Beta credentials are protected by the iOS Keychain. Deleting the app removes its locally stored content, subject to normal iCloud or device-backup behavior controlled by Apple.

Support and privacy requests

When you use a website request form, we receive your reply email, request category and message, plus any optional app version, iOS version, or Privacy ID you provide. Cloudflare processes the request and its human-verification token, and our transactional email provider delivers it to the appropriate Travel Historian mailbox. We do not ask for precise location through these forms.

Form contents are used only to respond, operate support, honor privacy requests, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. They are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes. Do not submit passwords, API keys, service credentials, payment information, government identifiers, or other secrets.

Service providers

Our hosting and security providers process network information such as IP address, request time, and endpoint for delivery, abuse prevention, and security. Historical-source services receive geographic search queries. AI services receive historical evidence and site context needed to draft or narrate a story, but not your Privacy ID or display name.

We require providers processing app data for us to protect it consistently with this policy and use it only to provide their service.

How information is used

Retention

Pending location requests are cleared from the durable job record at the end of the request. Reusable historical stories, public-site information, and narration audio may be retained long term because they are not personal travel records. Pseudonymous Explorer Progress is retained until deletion is requested. Operational security records are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for security, reliability, and legal obligations.

Sharing and sale

Travel Historian does not sell precise location, travel history, or personal information. We do not share app data for cross-app tracking or third-party targeted advertising. Service providers receive only the information needed to operate their portion of the service.

Your choices

You may deny or revoke location permission in iPhone Settings. Offline packs remain usable without location permission. You may leave the leaderboard at any time.

To request deletion of server-side Explorer Progress, use the privacy form above or email privacy@travelhistorian.com with the Privacy ID displayed in Status → Privacy Policy or Explorer Progress → Explorer Profile. Deleting the app removes locally stored data from that iPhone but does not by itself identify which pseudonymous server record to delete.

Children

Travel Historian is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We will update this policy before introducing a materially different use of personal information. Information collected for one purpose will not be repurposed or sold without the notice and consent required by law and Apple policy.
